Spring into Curb Appeal: 4 Ways to Boost Your Home's Exterior

Updated: Mar 22

Let's Be Real... not everyone enjoys doing yard work. It can be hot, tiring, and time-consuming. But what if I told you that the effort you put into your yard this spring can be fun and worthwhile? By taking some simple steps to boost your home's curb appeal, you can create a beautiful and welcoming exterior that you'll be proud to show off to your neighbors and friends. Plus, the satisfaction of relaxing and enjoying the upcoming warm weather in your own updated yard is unbeatable!
Here are my TOP 4 ways to boost your home's curb appeal this spring:

1. Spruce up your landscaping

Let's start with the basics. Take some time to clean up your yard, trim any overgrown shrubs or trees, and remove any debris that has accumulated over the winter. This is a great time to add some colorful flowers or plants to your garden beds and to give your lawn some TLC with some fertilizer and regular watering. If you aren't looking to garden look into some eye-catching outdoor flower pots. Any local garden center can help you figure out the right flowers/plants to match your yard & the amount of time your schedule will allow for upkeep!

Estimated Cost: $100-$500, depending on the size of your yard and the extent of the work needed.

2. Give your exterior a good wash

Has your home's exterior seen better days? A good pressure wash can work wonders! This will remove dirt, grime, and stains, leaving your home looking clean and refreshed. You can rent a pressure washer from your local hardware store, or hire a professional to do the job for you. If you can go with the expert... hire them.. it is worth it. Trust me- your deck, fence, and siding will look brand new after a proper treatment!

Estimated Cost: $100-$500, depending on whether you rent or hire a pro.

3. Update your front door

Your front door is the first thing people see when they come to your home, so why not make it look amazing? A fresh coat of paint in a bold color can make your door pop, or consider replacing it altogether with a stylish new door that has some added features like decorative glass or sidelights. In fact, according to a survey done by Zillow, homes with doors painted black attracted the most buyers!

Estimated Cost: $100-$1000, depending on whether you paint or replace your door.

4. Light up your exterior

Outdoor lighting is a simple and effective way to enhance your home's curb appeal, and it can also add some extra security to your property. Consider installing some lighting along your walkways, in your garden beds, or on your home's exterior. Solar lights are a great option that won't add to your electricity bill, or you can hire an electrician to install some more permanent fixtures. Personally, I have always been a sucker for the Edison bulb string lights & love how quickly they can help transform a patio!
Estimated Cost: $50-$500, depending on the type and number of lights you choose.

Boosting your home's curb appeal doesn't have to break the bank or be something you dread! With some simple updates to your landscaping, exterior, front door, and lighting, you can make your home look amazing and welcoming this spring.
